Patty M. Hardwick

Patty M. Hardwick was born in Las Vegas, Nev. on May 5, 1976. After a long and hard 10-year battle with cancer, she passed away at the University Medical Center in Tucson, Ariz. on Sunday, Feb. 19, 2012, with family at her bedside.

Samuel O. Soles

Samuel Owen Soles, 71, entered the gates of heaven on Feb. 17, 2012, in Tucson, Ariz. Sam was the first born son to Orrin and Edna Soles on Sept, 30, 1940 in Macon, Miss.

Jacob (Jake) Sanchez

The Lord called his son Jacob (Jake) Sanchez home on Sunday, Feb. 5, 2012. Jake was born in San Antonio, Texas, on Oct. 8, 1927 to Estevan and Daria Sanchez. Jake began his long career as a dental lab technician at age 14. He was trained at Salinas Dental Laboratory in San Antonio, Texas. At age 17 he enlisted in the Navy and continued serving as a dental lab technician on an aircraft carrier and hospital ship during WWII and the Korean War. Later he served in the same capacity during his 30-year service in the Army.

DEATH NOTICE: Maxine I. Rude

Maxine I. Rude, 90, of Sierra Vista, Ariz., passed away on Monday, Feb. 20, 2012. Private interment will be held at the Post Cemetery on Fort Huachuca. Arrangements are by Hatfield Funeral Home.

James Smith (Red)

James Smith (Red) of Sierra Vista passed away on Feb. 14, 2012.

James was born in Ray, Ariz. He served our country in the United States Army. He was a DOC Officer.

James is survived by his child, Tristan Smith; siblings, Ginger Thompson of Okla., Marvin Smith Jr. (Pete) of Ariz., Trevelene Cullum of Mont., Nancy James of Safford, Katie Vaughn of Safford; Uncle Richard Smith (Pee Wee); and many cousins, nieces and nephews.

Services will be held at the United Methodist Church in Huachuca City on Friday, Feb. 24, 2012, at 2 p.m.

Marlene F. Schroeder ‘Peggy’

Marlene F. Schroeder ‘Peggy’ went home to be in the loving arms of Jesus on Saturday, Feb. 18, 2012, at the Life Care Center in Sierra Vista, Ariz. She was born in Lloyd, Wis., on Oct. 8, 1926, to Glen A. and Cecil P. (Woodruff) Johnston.

Seward Benjamin Crew, Jr.

Seward Benjamin Crew, Jr., 74, of Sierra Vista, Ariz., passed away at Tucson Medical Center on Wednesday, Feb. 15, 2012. 

Ben or Benny as most knew him as, was born on June 28, 1937, in Paxton, Ind. to the late Seward B. Crew, Sr., and the late Francis L. McCammon Crew. He was raised and educated in Odon, Ind., and graduated from high school in 1955. He also attended college in Terre Haute, Ind.

He proudly served his nation in the U.S. Army. Ben met and married Maria “Val” Arvizu in Pirtleville, Ariz. on Sept. 29, 1962.

R.G. Reed

R.G. Reed passed away of natural causes at Villa Vista Nursing Home in Sierra Vista, Ariz., on Feb. 13, 2012. He was born March 10, 1921, in DeLeon, Texas. He worked and retired from Phelps Dodge Corporation in Bisbee.

His loving wife, Fanny Reed, passed away on Oct. 13, 2000. He and his wife were married for 59 years. They had been residents of Bisbee since 1941, coming from Texas where they previously operated a dairy farm.

Mary Therese Johnson “Terri”

Mary T. Johnson, 86, a 19-year resident of Sierra Vista, Ariz., passed away on Feb. 14, 2012. She was born in Chicago, Ill. on Feb. 2, 1926.

Mary worked as a bookkeeper and retired in 1982. She was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Sierra Vista Hospital and the VFW. She volunteered at the Kartchner Caverns from the time of its opening.

She is survived by her husband of 66 years, Robert Johnson of Sierra Vista; sons, Paul Johnson of Monterey, Calif., and Peter Johnson of Novato, Calif.

Mary is preceded in death by her daughter, Margaret Prybl.

Nancy Anne Hughes “Aunt Nana”

Nancy A. Hughes, 54, a 29-year resident of Hereford, Ariz., passed away on Feb. 15, 2012. 

She was born in San Mateo, Calif., to Richard S. and Marilynn L. (Sanders) Norris on April 22, 1957.

Nancy was raised in Tucson and attended Tanque Verde Elementary School
and Sabino High School. 

She also attended Northern Arizona University and was an active member of Gamma Phi Beta Sorority. 

Her love of animals started at a young age, being involved with ranching and 4-H and continued throughout her life.
