Paying for tomorrow’s careers

Buena High School Career and Technical Education (CTE) programs would get a major new funding source for expansion if the Sierra Vista Unified School District (SVUSD) joined the Cochise Technology District, while local taxpayers would foot only a small portion of the total bill. The idea garnered the early support of the governing board during Tuesday’s meeting.

One of only two Cochise County districts that have not joined the local Joint Technology Education District (JTED), Sierra Vista has taken the first step to begin assessing the community’s interest in the expansion of vocational and technical programs at the high school through JTED funding. The only possible snag is that joining the special district comes at a cost to local taxpayers and requires voter approval.
